The Gold and Diamond Park, Dubai’s first free zone for jewelry, is now fully occupied. And there are no immediate plans of expansion, despite constant request for space from international jewelry players. “Demand at the park has far out-paced supply. We now have 30 fully occupied retail outlets and 118 manufacturing units. We don’t’ have the facility to accommodate more.” Said Manan Desai, the park’s manager.
The park also manufactures the latest designer jewelry available in Dubai’s retail gold market. Earlier, this used to be exclusively imported. Though several traders still import their inventory, the park retains a fair share of designs and products in the market.
The park also gives local traders an opportunity to get the same products from here. Most of the companies employ highly skilled craftsmen where some of the workshops run 24 hours a day due to peak demand. They take orders and deliver the desired product, efficiently saving time and trouble of importing.
