Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA) has formally announced the completion of the Master Plan and Details of the Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) project carried out by CH2M Hill IDC, an International Consultant. This study has been done within a record 8 months period. The DSO Master Plan is divided into three stages:
The first stage is to prepare the infrastructure plan comprising studies on:
-Land topography
-Infrastructure services
-Economic feasibility study
-Traffic effect, and proposed plan
While the second stage involves preparation of the detailed plan consisting of the proposed land services, analyzing the return of investment (ROI) and the project cost; the final stage is to design the project building comprising the detailed plan of buildings and detailed study of road infrastructure.
According to DAFZA authorities, the prototype of the whole project has been completed and is currently working on preparing for engineering works of the infrastructure and roads. For this purpose, the engineering team of DSO is in the process of analyzing the tenders of competing consulting companies, which is to be finalized soon.
The engineering work is divided into three stages of Primary Studies, Primary Design and Final design and Preparation of tender works. The first stage of the project, to be completed by the first quarter of 2004, consists of the DSO building headquarters: office buildings for specialized companies and for educational institutions; laying road networks; building infrastructure services; and the implementation of the main entrance of DSO and landscaping as well.
Dr. Easa Bastaki, Director, Education, Training, R&D Department, said, The DSO project is divided into four phases, which is to be spread over a period of 20 years. In this, the first phase is be completed by 2009, which will mainly concentrate on the Design Centre, Education and related fields. In Education, we are also working on collaborating with universities in the region and across the globe to gain in-depth knowledge of this sector.”
The DSO project spans over 6.5 million square meter and consists of headquarters for the oasis and semiconductor electronic fabs, and also all the support industries required for the project. Also, as part of the project includes restaurants, housing and specialized administration services.
Says DSO, there is a consideration for this project on the economic feasibility and suitability of Dubai’s economic value. Also, this project is expected to bring in development of specialized industrial areas within the Human Resources development and ultimately its GDP.
