Dubai Logistics City (DLC), part of the massive Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB) development in Jebel Ali, has stepped up its efforts to attract logistics companies to set up facilities within the zone before its scheduled opening in December 2007.DLC has so far received interest from 70 companies that have reserved two million square metres of space, chief executive officer Michael Proffitt told Gulf News.
A delegation headed by Proffitt and Dubai World Central (DWC) marketing director Abdullah Al Falasi will go to Australia to meet logistics industry professionals in Brisbane from July 13 to 14.
"We are trying to explain that there is a good opportunity for supply chain companies to be in Dubai," Proffitt said. Dubai World Central International Airport will be 10 times the size of Dubai International Airport.
It will have a passenger handling capacity of over 120 million, more than the world's busiest airport in Atlanta, which in 2004 handled 83.5 million.
An investment of $33 billion is expected in DWC infrastructure in the coming 44 years, according to official projections.
Proffitt said DLC has been promoted to European and Singapore investors and Australia is significant destination in view of a proposed UAE-Australia free trade agreement and Emirates' plans to increase its Australian network. During its Australian tour the Dubai delegation will also present its facilities to the logistics association in Sydney.
"Our objective is to present a compelling business for DLC as Australia's preferred logistics and supply chain hub for the Middle East and beyond," he said
