Like several other trend-setting projects in Dubai, the Knowledge Village (KV) has come at a right time with the right aims. The landmark is located on a one-kilometer stretch alongside the 400-hectare Dubai Internet City (DIC) and Dubai Media City (DMC).
The AED 250 million Knowledge Village is home to a broad-range of education and training operations, ranging from major institutions with large, on-campus facilities, to independent, freelance trainers operating out of the Business Center.
Dr. Abdullah M. Al Karam, CEO, Knowledge Village, says the zone is a central pillar of Dubai’s strategy to establish itself as a knowledge economy. “ The DIC and DMC are poised for further growth. For maintaining their continuous growth – and that of the emerging ones – we will need well-trained people equipped with the latest education, training and awareness of the latest technologies.”
Knowledge Village is the third component of Dubai Technology and Media FREE Zone (TECOM) – the heart of Dubai’s knowledge economy.
Knowledge Village has been inspired from the model that sees universities and knowledge companies working closely together in the open-ended quest for innovation.
Knowledge Village is keen to promote post-university education and central to its concept is E-learning.
The aim of setting up the Knowledge Village is to provide an infrastructure for developing, sharing and acquiring knowledge in a variety of disciplines for student and corporate communities.
Members of the learning community have access to a host of shared facilities, including modern classrooms, computer laboratories, a multimedia library, auditorium and conference facilities, IT and media laboratories, among others, at an affordable price.
A majority of institutions at the KV are from the professional training and e-learning sectors offering courses in a range of fields, including IT, media, finance, healthcare, and language. KV provides a brick-and-click infrastructure for these companies to offer both classroom and Internet-based courses. Knowledge Village is keen to have at least one renowned university from each of the five continents.
